The last two months since my car accident has somehow lasted for at LEAST a year. Or so it feels. And the last week, since I paid for my replacement car, and waited for when I could get down to Auckland to collect, it has felt even longer. But tomorrow is the day 🙂 and today is already dragging its heels waiting for the morning.
Tuesday 26th. Well, I now have a pretty (powder blue) little Toyota Corolla, which my darling granddaughter told me is ‘cute’. By no means a Toyota MR2 (My companion of over 16 years), which I can no longer afford to get warranted every year, so sadly has to be sold. But, with input from my favourite daughter, my Corolla now has a new, strong name, – Persephone – 🙂 🙂 🙂
Didn’t sleep much, actually stayed awake ALL night, despite frequent turning out of lights and lying down with deep breathing. Sadly after everyone had gone home on Tuesday, I saw a big white blob in the middle of my back lawn. 🙁 :-(, checking it out I discovered one of my stray kittens (I feed about a dozen on my back deck every day), a beautiful white one with ginger tale, beyond any help in this world. I thought of how it had happened and decided it was probably my daughter’s dogs who were here while we were out, playing with it. My sleepless night was the result. I managed a couple of hours yesterday morning, but it was my day with my lovely granddaughter so I couldn’t dwell on it or take any naps in the afternoon. Thankfully I slept right through last night and am pretty much my usual self today.
After some research (never having grown these before) I discovered that my Aubergine that I had been waiting to harvest, was actually PAST its harvest date so has to be thrown onto the compost heap. Darn it. Still there are a couple more buds growing so I will stay hopeful. I thought, clearly mistakenly, that the fruit actually grew different lengths depending on the plant. Mine had not been much longer than a stretched tennis ball. So if it’s not too late in the season, we are definitely into Autumn here, then I will harvest at the proper time. Otherwise put it down to lessons learned and grow it again next season. I have another baby Aubergine starting, and five small Rock melons, unfortunately though, the Rock Melon vine itself seems to be dying down. I will give it another good watering this afternoon, but wonder if my summer produce is on the way out. The Pea seedlings I planted last week are not doing well at all, so think I might just work on regenerating the soil in my raised vegetable beds and start planting for Winter/Spring crops.
Thankfully I can now stop saving toward my relacement car and move my savings back to my veggie beds. Hopefully, by the end of April, I will have enough saved to splash out on a large raised bed in the garden and prepare for Potatoes, Cauliflower, Brocolli etc. That will be exciting, especially as the end of the season, unless it has been really successful can be a little melancholy, can’t it? BUT. The sun is shining and I have a brand new (to me) car sitting in the garage just aiting for me to take it out and go somewhere.
For this weekend, (Easter) I will be serving in the Lions BBQ tent Saturday afternoon as part of our fundraising efforts, and just yesterday was told about the family breakfast on Sunday morning after church. My church has a dawn service, to which I am really looking forward. Also, as this is to be held about half way between home and my son’s home, it will finish early enough for me not to be the last to arrive on Sunday. Last Easter was a lovely celebration and I am very much looking forward to this Sunday as well.
Sadly, no photos from me this post as both my iphone and ipad are broken (from car accident), but I might have a look for something to include.
I have to say that is is SO GOOD to be back again after a really bad year. Mostly due to suffering from depression and not realising till my daughter pointed it out. My very dear friends prayed for me the week after I made new plans for the future, which really helped. Anyway, as always, if you have any comments, please feel free to make them, good, bad or indifferent will be most welcome. Also, I can promise that I will respond within 48 hours, my emails are [email protected] and [email protected]. As always, Onward and Upward.
