CHURCH CHAT
Our Mission:- To love God, our neighbours and one another as we make disciples.
Quarterly News 10th August 2018
Our theme for 2018 was ́Made New ́. This draws from the Thai New Year festival known as ‘Songkran’ and is a time of renewal, cleansing and honouring. It’s also a traditional festival that has been contextualised by the Church, symbolising forgiveness and renewal through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. So we focus along these lines specifically concentrated on ‘A New Spirit’, ‘ A New Perspective’ and ‘A New Generation’.
This year, we used silver offering bowls as our Pray and Self Denial receptacles. These bowls are customarily used in the Thai New Year festival of Songkran. Each Sunday we spent time in specific prayer and thought for Missions. We collected $2,200. Thank you to all who participated. A grea effort.
The series on the Holy Spirit has been very good with Bruce Mounsey finishing the series speaking about the gift of Word and the speaking out in wisdom and prophecy.
Alan Davy – It was good to welcome Alan Davy from Morrinsville Baptist and hear his wisdom from God’s Word put into practical wellness and wholeness of every day living.
Congratulations Chelsea. We offer our congratulations to you Chelsea, we know that you have worked hard and not just in riding but in encouraging others, being there at working bees, supporting others and so we know you deserve this honour. Enjoy the ride
His Kids
At the time of this photo, the children were being reminded that they are Children of the King! His Kids is going well but we do need new leaders. We try to have a roster so that it is not the duty of one person to run His Kids every week. If you would like to join into this ministry, please talk to Pastor Alan or Jill Robertson. It is a very rewarding place to be on a Sunday
At our last Members Meeting Alan shared about thoughts of having a partnership with Bethlehem Baptist in Tauranga. We are well into a trial as we study the book of James via video but also with Pastor Craig Vernall (Bethlehem Baptist) starting the series in person. Pastor Alan has also shared a sermons along the way.
Each of the home groups are using the material for discussion which has been challenging and worthwhile. There will be more discussions as to how this is working and how it will work in other ways. If you have missed the sermons, they are all on line under Bethlehem Baptist Tauranga, Sermons, series, Travelling Light.
The Kitchen Dream Team is under way and we have had good brain storms and discussions about a good way forward for our needs.
Glenys took a couple of ladies to Franklin Baptist to look at their kitchens and we picked up some good advice as well as seeing how ours
could work.
The Drop In Centre is going very well and you would have seen the article about it in the Hauraki Herald. There is a lovely atmosphere in the room as each person arrives and is greeted like old friends. A good place to be on Tuesday mornings.
Mid-Year Celebration
We enjoyed our special celebration, Friday 27th July where we shared fellowship, food, and entertainment, with family, friends, and new “Drop In” friends. We are grateful to Sybil for her duties as MC for the evening, also thankyou to the fellowship team under the leadership of Annie Jones. We fed 93 people, which was a really good number to welcome. Well done and thank you to all who helped. In proof that they really do enjoy their Tuesday Drop In visits, several of our current regulars came along and really enjoyed themselves, meeting with our members in a caring and welcoming atmosphere.
We are sure next year will be even better.
Our studies in James are bringing all sorts of challenges to us and enlightenment of the Mercy not judgement.
For all those wishing to become members, please contact Pastor Alan and Glenys, Terry and Diane, or Doug and Jan.
We look forward to our next chat and if you have anything you wish us to add, please contact Jan, or Hilary at [email protected].
Our Purpose:- To know God and make Him known
